Referees

Welcome to the SPL Referees Page

Martin Etheridge has just taken over as SPL Referees Secretary and is looking forward to working with all the officials and clubs in 2012/13.  As an active Level 6 referee, now in his 32nd season, Martin knows first-hand what it's like to be 'in the middle' and he will be pushing to ensure that the referee contribution is fully recognised.  To get in touch with any ideas/suggestions - etheridgemartin@aol.com

We would like to be able to appoint qualified and registered referees to every match in the SPL but with 600 clubs this is simply not possible.  Priority will therefore be given to the older age groups.  However, as we also have a number of young referees, who are only available for the lower age groups, we will be looking to appoint them to appropriate matches, subject to availability and location.  All requests for referees should be through the appropriate Age Group Secretary no later than the Monday before the game (6 days notice).  You must request a ref on a week by week basis due to the constantly changing fixtures.  If you make contact any later you stand the risk of missing out because all the refs may be allocated elsewhere.

Officials will be entitled to charge the following inclusive fee for all matches which must be paid in full before or directly after the match.

Mini Soccer (U7 - U10) - £15.00

Under 11 to Under 14 -  £20.00

Under 15 to Under 18 - £25.00

Once the refs are allocated, you, your opponents and the referee will all be sent the same e-mail confirmation.  Clubs must still confirm the arrangement with the referee in case he does not know the venue.  Often one referee will be used for two games when the location(s) and/or kick off times permit.  Given that many clubs have a number of teams playing on the same ground with staggered ko times, it therefore makes sense to talk to your colleagues.  When contacting the opposition with details of the game, the home club must additionally advise details of the qualified referee that they plan to use for the game.  This applies to all referees, whether they are League Refs, Referees your club uses, or personnel from your club.  The important point is that they are qualified referees.

For those clubs with mini soccer teams, Surrey County Football Association run training sessions (one evening only) for officiating mini soccer matches.  Once you have completed this training session, you are qualified to officiate mini soccer matches.  If you or a member of your club is interested in attending this course, please let Martin know.
